A new member of the family

This is our new fur-baby, Simba! We had been thinking and talking about getting another dog for awhile and we finally decided a golden from a rescue association was the best option. We adopted him Memorial Day weekend from the Golden Retriever Rescue of El Paso. He is a big sweetie and is seems to be getting along with Bella really well.

According to the good folks at GRREP, Simba and his litter mates were abandoned in the mountains in North Carolina when they were little and somebody found them and gave them to a rescue group there. He was adopted by a family and lived with them until they moved to El Paso, where they surrendered him because they had to move into an apartment. We contacted the rescue group asking for an adult dog about Bella's age so they suggested Simba. He's very sweet and affectionate and very well trained. He is a little aggressive about food and has a few bad habits that I think will work out as learns the rules of our house. He is super smart and very food motivated so I think teaching him will be a breeze.  He is super hansome and very manly an his eyes are light gold in color (instead of the normal chocolate brown). They have the same startling effect as a husky's icey blue eyes, I find. He is lovely and calm and very gentle.

After a brief settling-in period with lots of pacing and panting, this is what has been going on since:
Followed immediately by long community naps.

Lather, rinse, repeat...

We love him already!
